- On January 6, the 1st "Shanghai Charity Conference" was held in the Municipal People's Government. SWS won the "Special Prize for Disaster Relief Donation". Li Jing, Party Committee Member also General Manager of the Human Resources Division, received the prize on behalf of the company.
- On January 9, the cadre personnel file acceptance and review group organized by the Organization Department and the Financial Work Commission of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee visited SWS to review the cadre personnel file work. After hearing the SWS report on self-examination and rectification on cadre personnel file work, the group made detailed spot check on some files. SWS finally stood out with an excellent result in the municipal financial system.
- On January 15, SWS heads, including Board Chairman Ding Guorong, Party Secretary, President & CEO Feng Guorong, Chairman of Board of Supervisors Tian Enmin and Party Committee Member and Labor Union Chairman Xie Jinkun, gathered with over 80 retired employees for a year-end party at Yunfeng Hotel.
On January 17and 18, the 1st SWS working conference of 2009 was held. Members of SWS CCP and administrative leadership, cadres with positions higher than deputy general manager of SWS headquarters in Shanghai, heads of all SWS headquarters outside Shanghai, persons in charge of all SWS business sub-branches, heads of SWS Research Co., Ltd., Shenying & Wanguo Futures Co., Ltd., Shenyin & Wanguo (H.K.) Ltd., Baoding Company and Service Company gathered together to discuss SWS reform and development blueprint. Ma Hong, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Financial Services Office, delivered an important speech at the meeting. Relevant personnel of the Office and the Shanghai Securities Regulatory Bureau and special representatives invited by SWS attended the meeting.
At the "2008 Jilin Financial Ceremony" held on January 20 in Changchun, Jilin, SWS won three awards, namely, 2008 Best Securities Company, 2008 Most Popular Securities Collective Wealth Management Product and one of 2008 Top Ten Jilin Financial Stars.
- From January 25 to 31, during the Chinese Spring Festival holiday, the Computer & Network Center carried out significant optimization and renovation on SWS networks and isolated SWS core business network, non-core business network, business network and office network. On the first trading day after the holiday, the operation of SWS technical system was on a normal and stable track, which represented a success in network optimization and renovation.
